Safety Belt Retractor — Second Row, Center

Removal and Installation

 WARNING: All safety belt components must be inspected and corrected as part of any collision repair. Inspect all safety belt components as prescribed by Safety Belt Inspection and Repair After a Collision found in Section 501-20A General Procedures of this manual. Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect operation of the safety belt system and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

All vehicles

  1. Remove the 60 percent seat. Refer to Section 501-10 .
  1. From under the seat, detach the 2 sets of cushion cover J-clips, 1 side retainer and separate the cushion cover from the lower anchor and tethers for children wires.
  1. NOTE: Typical cushion cover retainer shown, others similar.

    Detach the cushion cover retainers and pull them out from between the riser and cushion frame.
  1. Detach the cushion cover J-clip from the cushion frame.
  1. Remove the cushion foam pad and cover assembly.
    1. If equipped, disconnect the heated seat electrical connector.

Vehicles equipped with inflatable safety belts

  1. Remove 2 screws and the inboard riser inboard cover.
  1. Remove 3 screws and the inboard riser outboard cover.
  1. Remove 2 bolts and position the safety belt buckle and inflator tube out of the way.

All vehicles

  1. Remove the 2 screws and the safety belt bezel.
  1. Detach the 2 backrest cover retainers at the bottom and 1 at the inboard side.
  1. Remove the 2 pin-type retainers, detach 2 retainers attached to the hardback panel and separate the hook-and-loop strips.
  1. If equipped, remove the armrest. Refer to Section 501-10 .
  1. If equipped with an armrest, detach the backrest cover retainers in the armrest pocket.
  1. NOTE: During installation, make sure the safety belt is not twisted and the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants.

    NOTE: Without inflatable belts shown, with similar.

    Remove the safety belt anchor-to-inboard recliner bolt. Position the safety belt anchor out from behind the recliner.
  1. NOTICE: Use care when separating the backrest cover from the hook-and-loop strip or the hook-and-loop strip can be torn from the backrest foam pad.

    Inside out the backrest cover, separate the hook-and-loop strips and remove the 3 hog rings.

Vehicles equipped with heated seats

  1. Lift the backrest foam pad away from the backrest frame, cut the tie strap, disconnect the backrest heater mat electrical connector and detach the retainer.

All vehicles

  1. Lift the backrest foam pad and remove the center safety belt retractor bolt.
  1. Push the backrest foam pad and cover aside and remove the 2 safety belt guide bolts.
  1. Route the safety belt and buckle out through the backrest foam pad and cover and remove the retractor assembly with the safety belt guide.
  1. Remove the safety belt guide from the safety belt retractor assembly.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. Refer to the appropriate Functional Test procedure in Safety Belt System .
