REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Removal

NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part number or equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

All vehicles

  1. NOTICE: Do not allow the steering column to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected, or damage to the clockspring may occur. If there is evidence that the steering column has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. Refer to Section 501-20B .

    Steering wheel in straight ahead position.
    General Equipment: Steering Wheel Holder.
  1. Remove the wheels and tires. Refer to Section 204-04 .
  1. If equipped.

Vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI

  1. Remove the RH and LH exhaust flexible pipes.Refer to Section 309-00 .

Vehicles equipped with 3.5L Ti-VCT

  1. Remove the engine exhaust Y-pipe. Refer to Section 309-00 .

All vehicles

  1. NOTICE: Do not allow the intermediate shaft to rotate while it is disconnected from the gear or damage to the clockspring may occur. If there is evidence that the intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. Refer to Section 501-20B .

    NOTE: Index-mark the steering column shaft position to the steering gear for reference during installation.

    Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.
  1. NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.

    On both sides. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.
  1. NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the stud from turning while removing the nut.

    On both sides. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.
  1. NOTICE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal or CV boot may occur.

  1. If equipped.

Vehicles equipped with 3.5L Ti-VCT

  1. Wire brush and apply the substance from the specified tube.

Vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI

  1. Wire brush and apply the substance from the specified tube.

All vehicles

  1. General Equipment: Powertrain Lift 300-OTC-1585AE.
  1. On both sides. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.
  1. On both sides. Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary. Refer to Section 204-00 .
