REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Subframe — Rear

NOTE: All-Wheel Drive (AWD) shown, Front Wheel Drive (FWD) similar.

Removal and Installation

  1. Measure and record the vehicle ride height. For additional information, refer to Section 204-00 .
  1. Remove the rear wheels. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04 .
  1. With a wax pencil, mark the relational alignment of the rear subframe to the underbody at the mounting locations.
  1. Remove the muffler and tail pipe. For additional information, refer to Section 309-00 .
  1. NOTE: If equipped, index-mark the driveshaft before disconnecting from the rear drive axle.

    If equipped, remove and discard the 6 driveshaft bolts and position the driveshaft aside.
  1. Remove and discard the sway bar link upper nuts and reposition the sway bar.
  1. Using a suitable jackstand, support the lower arm.
  1. NOTE: Before tightening the lower shock bolts, make sure that the vehicle is at the recorded vehicle ride height. For additional information, refer to Section 204-00 .

    Remove the rear shock lower bolts.
  1. Remove the jackstand from the lower arm.
  1. Disconnect the main subframe electrical connector.
  1. Release the parking brake cable tension. For additional information, refer to Section 206-05 .
  1. Disconnect the RH parking brake cable from the front parking brake cable and the frame cable bracket.
  1. Remove the rear parking brake cable bracket and reposition.
  1. Remove the wheel opening parking brake cable bracket bolts and reposition the brackets.
  1. Remove the parking brake cables from the calipers.
  1. Remove the rear brake caliper bolts.
  1. NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the hydraulic brake lines.

    Remove the rear calipers and position aside. Attach to the body using mechanic's wire.
  1. Remove and discard the 4 rear subframe bracket bolts.
  1. NOTICE: When positioning the lifting table, be sure to support the rear subframe on the subframe rails. Do not lift on the rear differential or rear control arms, damage may occur.

    Position a lifting table under the subframe.
  1. Remove and discard the 2 front bolts of the rear subframe.
  1. Remove and discard the 2 rear bolts of the rear subframe.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
