Overview
The floor console refrigerator operates with the ignition in the ON position. The refrigerator should only be used when the engine is running. If there is a need to use the unit when the engine is off, limit usage time to avoid draining the battery.
The refrigerator controller circuit board saves the refrigerator mode (OFF, COOL, or FREEZE) into memory only when the ignition is in the ON position. When the refrigerator is active and the ignition is placed in the OFF position, the refrigerator will turn off. When the ignition is placed in the ON position, the refrigerator/freezer will automatically activate to the last known state that is stored in the refrigerator controller circuit board memory.
The refrigerator/freezer is equipped with the following:
System Operation
Refrigerator
The run/start relay, located in the BJB , supplies voltage to the refrigerator controller circuit board.
The refrigerator controller circuit board receives the refrigerator mode input from the refrigerator switch and the refrigerator temperature input from a sensor placed outside the refrigerator chamber. It also controls compressor start up and cycling along with condenser cooling fan switching. A predetermined time delay exists in order to avoid rapid compressor cycling. When a refrigerator mode is selected and the refrigerator temperature is above the target temperature, the compressor activates. If the temperature is below the target temperature, the compressor will not activate until the refrigerator chamber temperature rises above the target temperature. The refrigerant is only serviced with the refrigerator assembly.
Heat from the compressor and condenser is exhausted from the refrigerator console vents by a fan located on the right side of the console. The condenser cooling fan runs continuously when a refrigerator mode is selected and will not stop with the compressor, even when the target temperature is reached.
Cool Mode
To activate the refrigerator, press the refrigerator switch to the COOL position for approximately 1 second until the COOL LED illuminates. When the refrigerator is in COOL mode, the temperature will cool to approximately 41°F (5°C). To turn the refrigerator off, press the refrigerator switch to the COOL position for approximately 1 second until the COOL LED turns off. When the refrigerator is in COOL mode, it can be switched to FREEZE mode by pressing the refrigerator switch to the FREEZE position for approximately 1 second until both the COOL LED and FREEZE LED illuminate.
Freeze Mode
To activate the freezer, press the refrigerator switch to the FREEZE position for approximately 1 second until both the COOL LED and FREEZE LED illuminate. When the refrigerator is in FREEZE mode, the temperature will cool to approximately 23°F (-5°C). To turn the freezer off, press the refrigerator switch to the FREEZE position for approximately 1 second until the FREEZE LED turns off. When the refrigerator is in FREEZE mode, it can be switched to COOL mode by pressing the refrigerator switch to the COOL position for approximately 1 second until the FREEZE LED turns off and the COOL LED remains illuminated.
Refrigerator Diagnostic Mode
On-demand error codes are obtained by switching the refrigerator into a diagnostic mode. For more information, refer to Refrigerator Diagnostic Mode in Refrigerator .
