REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Seat Backrest — Second Row, 60 Percent

Removal

 WARNING: Use care when the seat back frame is removed and when releasing the recliners from a backrest upright position. The recliners are spring-loaded, which may cause the recliner upper arms to fold with significant speed/force. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE: With the seat out of the vehicle and the backrest is in the fold-flat position, the inboard latch foot must be in the LATCHED position to pivot the backrest back to the UPRIGHT position.

NOTE: When installing the backrest, the retaining bolts must be tightened in the sequence described in this procedure.

NOTE: For parts identification and location, refer to Seat — Exploded View, Second Row in this section.

  1. Remove the 60 percent seat from the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Seat — Second Row in this section.
  1. From under the seat, detach the 2 sets of cushion cover J-clips.
  1. NOTE: Typical cushion cover retainer shown, others similar.

    Detach the cushion cover retainers and pull them out from between the riser and cushion frame.
  1. Detach the cushion cover J-clip from the cushion frame.
  1. Remove the cushion foam pad and cover assembly.
  1. Detach the 2 backrest cover retainers at the bottom and 1 at the inboard side.
  1. Remove the 2 pin-type retainers, detach 2 retainers attached to the hardback panel and separate the hook-and-loop strips.
  1. If equipped, remove the armrest. For additional information, refer to Seat Armrest .
  1. If equipped with an armrest, detach the backrest cover J-clips and remove the pin-type retainer in the armrest pocket.
  1. Remove the safety belt anchor-to-inboard recliner bolt. Position the safety belt anchor out from behind the recliner.
  1. Roll the backrest cover up and remove the 2 outboard recliner-to-backrest bolts.
  1. Pull to detach and remove the outboard pivot cover.
  1. Remove the 3 inboard pivot cover screws and the inboard pivot cover.
  1. Remove the pivot bolt.
  1. Lift the backrest foam pad and cover. Remove the 2 inboard recliner-to-backrest frame bolts.
  1. Remove the backrest.

Installation

  1. Position the backrest and hand start all the recliner-to-backrest frame bolts and the pivot bolt.
  1. Install the bolts in the following sequence.
    1. Install the inboard recliner-to-backrest frame lower bolt.
      • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
    1. Install the inboard recliner-to-backrest frame upper bolt.
      • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
    1. Install the 2 outboard recliner-to-backrest bolts.
      • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
    1. Install the pivot bolt.
      • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  1. Position the inboard pivot cover and install the 3 inboard pivot cover screws.
  1. Install the outboard pivot cover.
  1. Position the safety belt anchor to the inboard recliner and install the bolt.
  1. Reposition the backrest foam pad and cover around the backrest frame.
  1. If equipped with an armrest, attach the backrest cover J-clips and install the pin-type retainer in the armrest pocket.
  1. If equipped, install the armrest. For additional information, refer to Seat Armrest .
  1. Reposition the backrest cover, install the 2 pin-type retainers, attach 2 retainers to the hardback panel and attach the hook-and-loop strips.
  1. Attach the 2 backrest cover retainers at the bottom and 1 at the inboard side.
  1. Position the cushion foam pad and cover assembly back on the cushion frame.
    1. Attach all the cushion cover retainers and J-clips.
  1. Install the 60 percent seat into the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Seat — Second Row in this section.
